“a consummate ensemble gifted with utter musicality and remarkable interpretive power” American Record Guide.
Formed when the members were teenagers studying at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, the Ariel String Quartet has been together for twenty years. Formerly the resident ensemble of the Professional String Quartet Training Program at the New England Conservatory, these award-winning musicians (the Cleveland Quartet Award; Grand Prize at the 2006 Fischoff the Székely Prize, and third place at Banff) they now are the Quartet in Residence University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, where they direct the chamber music program and present a concert series in addition to maintaining a busy touring schedule in the United States and abroad including recent debuts at Carnegie Hall, and a series of concerts at Lincoln Center with pianist Inon Barnatan and the Mark Morris Dance Company.
Though known for their commitment to performing and recording Beethoven, they are doing something different for us: a program called American Dream which juxtaposes a first half with compositions by American composers such as Florence Price, Winton Marsalis, and George Walker, with a rousing second half performance of the Dvorák Quartet in F Major, Op. 96, “American.”
